A mini fundraiser by Kansas Public Radio yielded $9,235 from listeners, according to a statement.

The drive went on air Nov. 21 during National Public Radio's "Morning Edition." The funds will go toward KPR's new music and entertainment shows.

"We've never tried this before, and our listeners made it a great success," Development Director Sheri Hamilton said in the statement.

For public radio to be truly "listener supported," it's critical that its listeners actually support it. Not politically support it. Not talk about it. Monetarily support it in proportion to the value it gives you.

I urge everyone who listens to public radio to write them a check today, at least $1 for every day that you listen throughout the year. 90% of public radio listeners - which just happens to be the wealthiest demographic in radio - mooch off the 10% who give. It's time to put our money where our mouth is.
