Internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist to perform at Baker University’s jazz festival

Internationally acclaimed jazz singer Kevin Mahogany will be returning to his alma mater to sing for the 16th annual Baker University Jazz Festival on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Mahogany will perform favorites including “Satin Doll,” “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “A Foggy Day in London Town.” Kansas City artists Ben Leifer (bass), Ryan Lee (drums) and Matt Hopper (guitar) will also join him for a special combo set of his most popular songs.

As a student on the Baldwin City campus, Mahogany was a drum major, part of the jazz ensemble and sang opera. Named “the standout jazz vocalist of his generation” by Newsweek, he will serve as the artist in residence during the week of Nov. 18-22, assisting students studying jazz education and life of a professional musicianship, and rehearsing with the jazz ensemble.

Admission is free and open to the public.
