19-year-old KU student victim of strong-armed robbery

Lawrence police are searching for one suspect, possibly more, after the strong-armed robbery of a 19-year-old Kansas University student Sunday in the 4300 block of West 24th Place.

According to Sgt. Troy Squire, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, the victim exited an apartment complex late Sunday afternoon to take out his garbage and was approached by a male suspect who robbed the victim of his cellphone “in a forceful way.”

Squire said a second suspect might have been involved. He declined to detail the forceful nature of the robbery or how a second suspect may have been involved, although he did say the victim was not injured. Squire was unable to provide a specific description of the suspect Sunday evening.

The suspect was last seen leaving the area near West 24th Place.
