Local independent EMU Theatre is holding open auditions for an original rock production, “Johnny Butts,” at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.

Initially performed in 2005 and written by playwright Andy Stowers and musician Nick Wells, the original full-length musical production tells the story of a mentally ill street artist who rises to fame while struggling for legitimization in the art world. The show will run Jan. 17, 18, 24 and 25 on the main stage of the Lawrence Arts Center.

Parts are available for both male and female singing roles. Prepare a minute’s worth of singing material for audition, and EMU will provide readings.
