Founder of KU medical school cardiology division dies
E. Grey Dimond, who founded the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine as well as the cardiology unit at the Kansas University School of Medicine, died Sunday at 94.
Dimond joined the KU medical school as director of the Cardiovascular Laboratory in 1950 and soon after founded the cardiology division in the school. In 1953, he became the chairman of internal medicine at KU, and the youngest chairman at any internal medicine department in the country at the time, according to his curriculum vitae. He stayed at KU until 1960. The KU medical school named Dimond an honorary alumnus in 2011.
