Lawrence city commissioners to debate rental licensing program

Lawrence city commissioners are to discuss the future of a proposed citywide rental-licensing program at a study session Tuesday afternoon.

Commissioners will provide feedback to staff members about potential changes to regulations that would require essentially every rental unit in the community to be licensed by the city.

Commissioners and staff members will meet at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at City Hall.

Commissioners have said they may want to change how often rental units would be required to be inspected, and what type of violations would be cited by city inspectors.

Currently, only rental units in neighborhoods zoned for single-family homes must be licensed by the city.
