Wildflower Walk set for Saturday

The Kansas Land Trust, a land preservation and protection nonprofit organization, is sponsoring the Akin Prairie Wildflower Walk at 1 p.m. Saturday at Akin Prairie. The walk will be led by Kelly Kindscher, who is the author of “Edible Wild Plants of the Prairie” and “Medicinal Wild Plants of the Prairie” and is a founder of the Kansas Land Trust.

The prairie, which is protected from development, is 16 acres of prairie grasses and wildflowers. It was donated to the Kansas Land Trust in 1994.

The Wildflower Walk is free and open to the public, and the Kansas Land Trust suggests wearing sturdy walking shoes, long pants, insect repellent and a hat for the walk.

To get to Akin Prairie from Lawrence, go east on Kansas Highway 10 for two miles. Take the East 1900 Road exit, then continue south for two miles and turn right onto North 1150 Road.
