Manhattan ? Kansas University’s Natalia Bartnovskaya won the pole vault Saturday at the Ward Haylett Track Invitational, breaking school, meet and facility records in the process.

Bartnovskaya’s vault of 14 feet, 7.25 inches (4.45 meters) was the 11th-best mark in NCAA history.

Paris Daniels set a career-best 400 time in 52.61 seconds, Natalie Becker earned her best finish in the 1,500 (4:25.28), and Alena Krechyk won the hammer throw (223-7).

In the men’s events, Brendan Soucie won the 800 (1:50.27), and Nick Ucherek won the 400 hurdles (54.60). Jonathan Miller won the discus throw (183-5).

The Jayhawks next will head to the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Championships on May 23-25 in Austin, Texas. Qualifiers will be announced Monday.

Geubelle breaks record at Ga. Tech

Atlanta — Kansas University triple jumper Andrea Geubelle rewrote her own school record on Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

Geubelle, the only Jayhawk at the event, set a mark of 45 feet, 5.25 inches (13.5 meters) on her first attempt of the day. That jump earned Geubelle a spot at the USA Championships, held June 19-22 in Des Moines.
