5K and wellness festival to raise awareness for Lyme disease

The Hope for Healing USATF 5K Run, Walk and Wellness Festival to raise awareness for Lyme disease is schedule for Saturday at South Park in downtown Lawrence.

The 5K race begins at 8 a.m., and a one-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. A Wellness Festival with booths focusing on health, nutrition, exercise, natural therapies and sustainable living will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. At the festival there will be family friendly activities such as a bounce house, face-painting and an obstacle course.

The event will benefit Kansas Tick-Borne Disease Advocates Inc., a nonprofit whose goal is for Kansans to have equal access to medical testing and treatment according to the Standard of Care developed by International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society physicians.

Registration for the race is $30 for individuals, $25 per team member or $15 for the walk. To register for the race or walk, go online to kstbda.com.
