25 years ago: Final Four fever grips Lawrence area

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 31, 1988:

Final Four Fever was coming to a slow boil today as Lawrence residents and other Kansas University fans scrambled for tickets or made other plans to watch the upcoming game against Duke. One local apartment complex was attempting to recruit tenants by promising that their first month’s rent would be, in dollars, the total number of points Duke scored against KU in the April 2 game. Students at Hillcrest Elementary dressed in crimson and blue (with Jayhawk beaks made of yellow construction paper) to attend a pep assembly in honor of Darnelle Manning, Deerfield School teacher and mother of Danny Manning. The Downtown Lawrence Association and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce were already planning to have a parade to honor the Final Four team, regardless of the outcome of the game. Meanwhile, many ticket sellers and buyers were having a crash course in Economics 101 as the case of supply and demand was being played out in local classified advertising pages and ticket bureaus.
