From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 16, 1988:
- Organizers of Lawrence's first-ever St. Patrick's Day Parade said that the event would be held tomorrow regardless of the snowy forecast. Kansas University weather observers were calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow and a high of 33 degrees during the 2.4-mile parade, scheduled to kick off at noon. "I hope it's green stuff falling instead of white stuff, but we'll go on regardless," said Gene Shaughnessy, adding that he would prefer snow to rain.
- County commissioners today passed a regulation allowing Douglas County officials to test current employees for drugs if they had "reasonable suspicion" that controlled substances were being used on the job.
