40 years ago: Health department doc will be difficult to replace
From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 14, 1973:
- A replacement for Dr. Dale Clinton, the county public health director who had resigned the previous week, would be difficult to find and much more expensive, according to several local doctors who spoke at a recent public health board meeting. At the meeting, county commission chair Walter Cragan requested that health board chair Dr Raymond Schwegler ask Clinton to serve on an interim basis until a new director could be found, while several other doctors urged the board to hire Clinton back at an increased salary.
- A sudden downpour surprised Lawrence residents this morning as a half-inch of rain suddenly drenched the area. The National Weather Service once again, for the second time in five days, issued flash flood warnings for small streams in eastern Kansas. The forecast called for continued rain with winds of up to 35 miles per hour and a chance of hail.
