Letter: Local control

To the editor:

As a Journal-World subscriber, I’d like to see more coverage on the school bond issue that will be decided by voters on April 2. Lawrence doesn’t have to sit idle and play victim to decisions from Topeka. We can vote “yes” on the $92.5 million school bond that will not raise our taxes, so we can protect property values, modernize and equalize educational facilities, and support local business by training more electricians, nursing assistants and more via new career training opportunities.

This isn’t just about public school kids or business owners; it’s about everyone, since few of us wire our own homes or are responsible for answering the call light for a friend in the hospital or Lawrence’s many nursing homes. This school bond is about keeping Lawrence thriving — no matter what happens in the rest of the state.
