From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 11, 1973:
- Lawrence city commissioners this week rejected a request to extend West 15th Street to Monterey Way. Commissioners had met informally with John McGrew, representing Alvamar Inc., which had requested a 200-foot extension of 15th past its present end, and John Emerson, who had requested a 644-foot extension to connect with Monterey Way. Commissioners agreed that 15th would eventually have to be extended but argued that there was not yet enough public need for developing the area. They added that the extension would put a heavy assessment on the property north of 15th Street owned by the Girl Scouts.
- The Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health Board met privately this week to discuss the effects of the sudden resignation of Dr. Dale Clinton, health department director. Clinton had phoned in his resignation to board chair Dr. Raymond Schwegler, following up with a short letter stating only that he was resigning. For the immediate future, Schwegler said, "Operations will continue in all respects with the exception of those duties requiring the immediate presence of a physician."
