25 years ago: Lawrence couple to tie the knot during St. Pat’s parade

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 11, 1988:

  • Many people in Lawrence were looking forward to the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day parade, but a local couple were expecting it to be even more meaningful to them. Alan Johnson and Terri Wilson were planning to be married while riding on the parade float sponsored by AJ’s 8th Street Tavern, where the bride-to-be was employed. The two had planned to marry this spring in any event, but they had decided that an exchange of vows during the parade would be even more memorable. Parade planners were going to pass out about 50 pounds of birdseed to allow spectators to help with the celebration.
  • The Salvation Army announced that they were sponsoring an “Easter Dress Parade” clothing giveaway this week. Through donations, children were able to select Easter finery for the April 3 holiday.
