Boca Raton, Fla. — Kansas University junior Alex Jones pitched the Jayhawk softball team to two victories on Saturday at the Florida Atlantic Invitational.
Jones took the mound in the sixth inning of Game 1 and threw six straight outs as KU held off Ball State, 8-7. In Game 2, Jones picked up where she left off and threw five shutout innings with eight strikeouts and just four hits as Kansas run-ruled host FAU, 10-0.
Jones improved to 5-0 on the season, and the Jayhawks (18-5) earned their fourth victory of the weekend tournament.
“A.J. (Alex Jones) had a great day,” KU coach Megan Smith said after the doubleheader. “She was lights-out in the circle, and I was really proud of her today.”
Smith had plenty to be proud of herself: The fourth-year coach earned her 100th and 101st victories at KU.
The Jayhawks will face Louisiana Monroe at 8 a.m. today.
