25 years ago: District court begins microfilming old criminal cases

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 8, 1988:

A project was afoot at the Douglas County District Court whereby documentation of all criminal cases from 1863 to 1947 were being transferred to microfilm, which would then be stored at Kansas University’s Spencer Research Library. District court administrator Scott Courtney said that the microfilms would be available for library research in about a month. The work was being done by workers at a Kansas Correctional Industries laboratory at the state penitentiary in Lansing. The documents included such items of historical interest as first-degree murder cases against William Quantrill and several other men after his infamous raid as well as murder cases signed by Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp.
