Two Kansas men’s golfers finish in top five at Louisiana Classics

March 6, 2013

— Kansas University seniors Alex Gutesha and Chris Gilbert finished in the top five, and sophomore Stan Gautier tied for 17th as KU’s men’s golf team placed sixth Tuesday in the Louisiana Classics.

Kansas finished the two-day event with a three-round total of 881, (17 over par), 15 strokes behind tournament champion Illinois (866).

Gutesha took third with 69-74-70 — 213 (3 under), and Gilbert tied for fifth at 72-69-74 — 215 (1 under).

Gautier logged his second consecutive finish in the top-20 as he tied for 17th with a three-day score of 71-75-73 — 219 (3 over).

“There was a little better weather, a lot less wind today so some teams took advantage of that,” KU coach Jamie Bermel said. “We did not.”

KU sophomore Dylan McClure tied for 71st at 80-77-78 — 235 (19 over), and freshman Jackson Foth tied for 79th with a 85-76-82 — 243 (27 over).

The Jayhawks’ next action will be March 21-23 at the Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz.
