Pulitzer-winning investigative journalist to speak at KU on Wednesday

A two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist will speak Wednesday at Kansas University.

Longtime investigative reporter James B. Steele will give a lecture on his 2012 book “The Betrayal of the American Dream” at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Woodruff Auditorium at the Kansas Union.

Steele and his reporting partner of more than 40 years, Donald L. Barlett, have won two Pulitzer Prizes for newspaper work as well as two National Magazine Awards, the first journalists to win both honors. Steele and Barlett have worked together at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Time Inc. and have written eight books. They are currently contributing editors at Vanity Fair.

Their most recent book, released in 2012, is “The Betrayal of the American Dream,” about what they say is the decline of the American middle class. That book will be the subject of Steele’s talk on Wednesday.

KU’s Student Union Activities group is sponsoring the event.
