KU swimming last after second day of Big 12 meet

? Kansas University senior Brooke Brull and freshman Meredith Brownell helped the last-place KU swimming and diving team put up some points on Thursday at the Big 12 Championships.

Brull placed fifth with a season-best finish in the 200 IM and also helped the KU 400 medley relay team of Alison Lusk, Deanna Marks and Haley Molden take fourth.

Brownell led the KU divers with a fifth-place finish in the one-meter event.

The Jayhawks’ 125 points on Thursday increased their two-day total to 155.5, but the team still sits in fifth place behind the conference’s other four women’s swim teams — Iowa State (175.5), TCU (181), West Virginia (217) and Texas (318).

“We are now kind of getting in the flow of the meet,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “We need to continue to build on our momentum.”

The third day of the four-day meet begins today at 10 a.m., with preliminaries. Finals will follow at 6 p.m.
