From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 22, 1973:

• Although no projections were yet available, it appeared that this year’s wheat harvest would be a good one. A long winter that had begun harshly in November had prohibited a great deal of planting, and although the per-acre yield appeared to be average or above-average, it was not likely to be outstanding, according to Jim Shultz of the Farmer’s Co-op Association.
• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this week outlined its preliminary master plan for the Clinton Lake project at a meeting at South Junior High School. The government’s proposed uses for the land surrounding the 7,000-acre lake were to include hiking, biking, camping, horseback riding, swimming, and boating. The Corps was to maintain four public use areas, while other land would be set aside for Lawrence School District 497, a state park, state game lands, and use by Kansas University.
• The astronauts of Skylab returned today from mankind’s longest space journey to date. Despite some early dizziness and lightheadedness, they were pronounced in excellent physical condition. The men had been in the weightlessness of space for a record four weeks.
