The King is coming to Lawrence.

The Elvis Visit to End Polio Now, a fundraiser to benefit Rotary International’s campaign to eradicate polio, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Watson Park with a 5k run and walk through the Old West Lawrence neighborhood. The run/walk is followed by a community lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and tours of downtown Lawrence from 2 to 4 p.m.

Joseph Hall, an Elvis tribute artist and finalist on season three of “America’s Got Talent,” will perform his Rock ‘N’ Remember Tribute concert at the Lied Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $30 for adults, $15 for children and $15 with a KU or other college ID. In 2008, Hall placed third in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest and he is recognized by Elvis Presley Enterprieses.

Mary Jean Eisenhower, a granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, is the chairwoman of the event and will attend the day’s activities. Eisenhower is a polio survivor and CEO of People to People International.

In 1985, Rotary International began a campaign to eradicate polio, a potentially fatal infectious disease that causes paralysis and breathing difficulty and mostly targets children under 5. Rotary works to eradicate polio in the three remaining endemic countries: Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan.
