Topeka ? The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday will consider approving $80 million in bonds for expansion of the Kansas University School of Engineering.

The proposed 130,000 square foot engineering building has already been approved by the regents.

The building will attach to the north end of another new building, the Measurement, Materials and Sustainable Environment Center, which was dedicated in 2012.

The project is part of an initiative approved in 2011 that increased funding to KU, K-State and Wichita State to increase the number of engineering graduates.

KU plans to pay off the bonds through its share of gambling revenues and other funds within the university.

The building is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
