Strong thunderstorms were moving across portions of southeastern Jefferson and Douglas counties Saturday afternoon. At 4 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar was indicating that winds could be as strong as 40 to 50 MPH, and torrential rainfall and lightning was possible. Areas that could be affected include Lawrence, Lecompton, Eudora, Perry and Williamstown. Travelers on the Kanasas Turnpike between mile markers 191 and 205 should use caution as the storm could affect this area as well.

Rain chances will decrease early Saturday evening.

There will be another chance for thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and night in north-central to east-central Kansas. Storms could be capable of strong, gusty winds, large hail and heavy rainfall.
