25 years ago: Marina parking lot to be paved

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 4, 1988:

  • A project to construct a paved parking lot at the Clinton Lake Marina was scheduled to start later this month, according to a Kansas Department of Transportation representative. KDOT on the previous day had announced bids totaling $19 million for state highway construction and maintenance projects in 23 Kansas counties, and the marina, which had had a dirt parking area since its opening the previous year, was one of the projects included in the process. (KDOT was involved in the project because the marina was within the Clinton State Park.) Folks using the marina were thrilled at news of the upgrade, as rains often made the existing parking area a mass of mud.
  • Electrical problems were said to have been the cause of a house fire at 320 Mississippi the previous afternoon. Fortunately there had been no injuries in the blaze, which caused an estimated $40,000 in damage. Firefighters had battled the fire for about four hours.
