From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 3, 1973:

• John Andrews, consultant and coordinator on the Watkins Building remodeling project, announced this week that he was seeking an iron gate that had once adorned the entry arch of the building, now being renovated to house the Elizabeth M. Watkins Community Museum. Andrews said that the gates and the old wooden doors had been removed in 1953 or 1954 and that he had been told that they were stored in the attic, but he had not yet been able to locate them. He asked that anyone who knew of their whereabouts get in touch with him. Andrews was also in search of other artifacts once used in the building when it had served as a major Lawrence bank but which were now missing, including old desk chairs, lights, window shutters, hardware from doors, and even whole vault doors.
• Movies showing in Lawrence theaters this week included “Cabaret,” “Ace Eli and Rodger of the Skies,” “Hitler: The Last Ten Days,” “The Heartbreak Kid,” and “Charlotte’s Web.”
