To the editor:

The old newspaper adage, “If it bleeds, it leads” lives on at the Lawrence Journal-World, even if it was 150 years ago. 

I take offense to the (July 17) headline, “Mizzou’s Pinkel pines for return of Border War.” You did not quote Coach Pinkel using the term “War.” So the “rivalry formerly known as the Border War” is to be resurrected by this paper now? “War is hell;” a football game is not. You are cheapening the brave that went before that have fought in real “war.” Why is this paper using this term that Kansas University specifically requested in 2004 to be dropped as a descriptive of the football game? No one ever died in a Kansas/Missouri football game. Shame on you for the insensitivity shown and for snubbing the university’s request.

Note to editor, it is spelled “Missouri.” You  should look within at these kinds of offenses because it makes hollow this paper’s desire for civil discourse.
