Vandals cause $5,000 in damage to KU campus building

Campus police are investigating an estimated $5,000 in damage discovered early Monday in Wescoe Hall on Kansas University’s Lawrence campus.

The damage was found primarily in the bathroom stalls of a fourth-floor men’s room and some benches on the building’s ground level, according to a report from the KU Office of Public Safety. Police think vandals caused the damage between Friday and Monday, damaging the bathroom stall doors and pulling the benches up from the floor, where they had been bolted into place.

The doors to the building are often unlocked in the summer when campus workers have appointments to use offices and other spaces, said Capt. Schuyler Bailey, a KU Public Safety spokesman.

The case remained open today, with no known suspects.
