25 years ago: K-State ends KU streak with Allen Fieldhouse win

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 31, 1988:

Fans of the Kansas University Jayhawks said farewell to a lengthy winning streak this week after witnessing the rare spectacle of the KU men’s basketball team losing to Kansas State in Allen Fieldhouse. A crowd of 15,800 supporters left the Fieldhouse in a despondent mood after the Wildcats, led by senior Mitch Richmond, defeated Kansas 72-61, thereby putting an end to the Jayhawks’ 55-game streak — the longest in the nation at that time. The home loss had been KU’s first since falling 92-82 to Oklahoma State on Feb. 22, 1984. As of this date, the Jayhawks were 67-3 at home under fifth-year coach Larry Brown.
