A construction worker was critically injured Wednesday morning in a fall at the building site of the Eudora Public Safety Building, at the corner of 10th and Main streets in Eudora. The man fell eight to 10 feet while working at the site, said Ken Keiter, Eudora Fire Chief.
The Eudora Fire Department and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded about 10 a.m. and took the injured man by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Keiter said. A LifeStar helicopter ambulance was not available at the time of the accident because of weather conditions.

Why do the taxpayers of the city of Lawrence have a public Hospital if no one is ever taken there? Seems wrong to take everyone who has an accident to The Hospitals in KC area. I hope this guy is going to be okay.

Because the taxpayers have not paid for a trauma center. You are advocating spending more tax dollars. Check LMH out sometime, you will notice that the taxpayers of the city of Lawrence are paying for a very vibrant ,busy, and high quality hospital. Hope this helps you out. doubt it though.

If i'm in need of trauma care i want to be where the necessary specialists are on staff and ready to go without complications of cost , insurance . The size of LMH is not conducive to that. Specialists in Lawrence require payment first or you're left with what the ER can do for you if you're uninsured. Teaching hospitals like KU Med are uniquely equipped to deal with these type of cases.
LMH does well in it's niche community hospital setup but a trauma center it is not and I don't see how they will handle the burden of trying to duplicate the services of KU or Stormont.
That , consumer is why these cases are sent to KU Med.

Lawrence memorial is not a trauma center. Scooping them up after a TRAUMATIC accident and taking them to a trauma center saves time for the patient. Where as if he was takin to LMH they would have to wait for the transfer process between lmh and trauma center and in the end costing the patient more time and money. Better safe than sorry.

Exactly. And most cities our size do not have a trauma center at their local hospital, especially when there is one just 25 minutes away.
For a city our size, we have a damn good hospital.

25 minutes by car, less by ambulance and even less by air transport. It doesn't make sense to run up the cost of medical treatment by duplicating these trauma centers when there is a very high quality one only a few further minutes away. Peoples lives are at stake.

This is why I continue to say that St. Luke's needs to build a trauma center out south and run Gene Meyer and his dog and pony show out of business.

What do you have against Gene Meyer. I think he does a pretty good job, although I may be misinformed. I think he makes a little too much money, but I understand his salary is competitive within the indsustry for a hospital of our size.
Further, I think he was pretty damn good in fending several years ago an attempt of a private for-profit hospital to plant roots in the city. Two hospitals would have been too much, and would have significantly decreased revenue and made it a lot more difficult to provide the quality of care currently received.
LMH is not perfect, but I believe it is more than adequate.

You have to meet certain realistic costly 24hr per day surgical staffing needs, to be called a level one trauma center,..... and treat the most extensively injured of persons.
It's not like you can just make believe that you have a level one trauma center and hang out a shingle, like some politician balancing..... ?@$€¥!!!!!...,our imaginary republican state budget !!!!

If you were going to, wearing the OSHA safety harness and USING it might be a good idea. Also I hate when reports always say someone was hurt in a fall.... wrong the falling part don't hurt at all nor will the falling cause injuries, it's always the sudden stop with a hard object like the planet that dose the hurting part... might as well call it what it is.... "guy hits planet at high speed, get's hurt".
