The Lawrence school board gave Superintendent Rick Doll good grades during his annual performance evaluation on Monday.

The board met in executive session for about 25 minutes to discuss nonelected personnel matters. Later, in open session, board President Vanessa Sanburn confirmed publicly that the meeting was to discuss Doll’s annual review.

“It was a very positive evaluation and we’re pleased that we have him as our superintendent,” Sanburn said.

Doll’s contract will be up for renewal later this year. He said the board often waits until after negotiations on teacher contracts before it acts on administrator contracts. He is currently in his fourth year as superintendent.

In other business, the board:

• Met for about two hours prior to the official board meeting for a professional development workshop on educational equity.

• Recognized the staff at Broken Arrow, Langston Hughes and New York schools for being named winners of the 2012 Governor’s Achievement Award, which recognizes the top 5 percent of all schools in Kansas based on state reading and math assessments.

• Approved the 2013-14 middle school course selection forms and high school course guides.
