40 years ago: Weather-weary Lawrence area receives additional snow

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 22, 1973:

  • A winter-weary Lawrence had received four more inches of snow over the weekend, and the city police were reporting 31 traffic accidents, most of the “fender-bender” variety. Many snowmen were being constructed around town as Lawrence schools had already been scheduled to close today for teacher in-service training. The official January snowfall total now stood at 11 inches.
  • A “no-fault” car insurance bill recommended by Kansas Insurance Commissioner Fletcher Bell was introduced today in the Kansas House. The bill, which was characterized by a representative as being “of major importance,” was scheduled to come up for possible debate and amendment this week.
