Lawrence Meals on Wheels is in need of several new volunteers to take over six to eight routes that have recently become available. Regular volunteers are sought to commit to at least one route per week to deliver meals to homebound community members. This is a great opportunity for a local businesses, community groups, or churches to take on: committing to a route and scheduling group members for different days of the week. Volunteers pick up meals for their route at 11:15 a.m. on their assigned day and should count on delivering meals for about 45 minutes. Immediate needs

• Grassland Heritage Foundation, or GHF, is seeking volunteers to help at its table during Kaw Valley Eagles Day, which will be at Free State High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. GHF will host a table during the event where volunteers will help with a new children’s activity, a Prairie “Scavenger” Hunt; volunteers are needed to work the table and talk to participants about GHF and the tallgrass prairie. • Citizens Climate Lobby is looking for community volunteers to join its group and get involved in advocating for the passage of carbon fee and dividend legislation. The local chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby meets monthly, joining the national conference call, and organizes various actions for volunteers. Volunteers are trained to address climate change through lobbying members of congress, contributing letters to the editor, giving presentations, tabling and writing letters to members of Congress. • Family Promise of Lawrence is in need of volunteers to provide support for its guest families staying overnight at host congregations each night. Families are transported at 5 each evening to their host congregations where they will have dinner, spend the evening, sleep and have breakfast before being transported back to the Day Center about 6:30 the next morning.

Volunteers are needed to help at the host congregations in the evenings by preparing dinner, helping with after-dinner cleanup, offering conversation and friendship to the families, possible tutoring for the children, providing supervision overnight, and breakfast preparation in the morning.

All volunteers must attend a one-time training session before volunteering with guests; sessions are held at least once a month currently. For more information about becoming an Overnight Host for Family Promise, contact Becky Peters at becky@lawrencefamilypromise.org.
