From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 9, 1988:

Few clues had been discovered so far in a police investigation of a recent robbery at the Douglas County Bank branch at 15th and Kasold. Sgt. Dan Affalter, head detective assigned to the case, said earlier this week that a small, tan car with two people inside had been spotted outside the bank just before the Dec. 30 robbery. During the hold-up, a man wearing a pull-over Halloween mask, hat, top coat, and gloves had entered the bank, pulled out a handgun, and ordered two tellers to hand over their cash drawers. No one had been injured in the robbery, but the man had escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Douglas County Bank president Joe Kelly had announced that the Kansas Bankers Association had offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the bank robbers. The robbery had been the second of 1986; the first had occurred on Nov. 16 when the Lawrence National Bank branch at 27th and Iowa had been robbed by a man wielding a handgun and wearing a blue stocking cap. Two 18-year-old Lawrence men were currently facing felony aggravated robbery charges in Douglas County District Court in connection with that crime, and both were free on $5,000 bonds.
