Area basketball roundup: Ojeleye scores 57 as Ottawa wins big

Ottawa 77, Paola 30

Ottawa — Semi Ojeleye scored 57 points, 40 in the first half, as Ottawa (8-0) rolled Friday night in high school basketball. Ojeleye missed his season-high 58 by a point and played only three quarters.

According to coach Jon McKowen, going into Friday night’s game, Ojeleye was averaging 39.5 points per game this season.

Ottawa hosts Baldwin on Tuesday.

De Soto 50, Eudora 39

Eudora — Eudora’s Andrew Ballock scored a game-high 18 points, but De Soto pulled away in the fourth quarter to win by 11.

Nick Becker scored 14 points for Eudora, which had three players score.

Eudora (3-5) travels to Paola on Tuesday.

Horton 53, McLouth 48

McLouth — Horton led by six points at halftime and won by five.

Tonganoxie 66, Anderson County 64

Garnett — John Lean scored all of his 11 points in the second half, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, to propel the Tonganoxie High boys to a two-point win at Anderson County.

The Chieftains (2-3) trailed by four points in the final seconds, but a conventional three-point play by James Grizzle made it 64-63 with 12.6 seconds left. Tonganoxie then forced a turnover and called a timeout at half court with 1.5 seconds left. Lean received the inbounds pass several steps behind the arc, and his shot sliced through the net as the final horn sounded.

Jack Dale led THS with 20 points, while Zach Hilliard scored 20 for Anderson County.

Holton 78, Perry-Lecompton 33

Holton — Holton raced to a 14-point first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Austin Johanning led Perry-Lecompton with seven points.

The Kaws (1-6) will play at Santa Fe Trail on Tuesday

Baldwin 52, Louisburg 46

Baldwin City — Michael Burton scored 14 points, and Tim Craig and Caleb Gaylord scored nine apice to lead Baldwin

The Bulldogs (5-2) will play Tuesday at Ottawa.

Tonganoxie 49, Anderson County 27

Garnett — Kaitlyn Waldeier led Tonganoxie with 15 points, and Jenny Whitledge scored 14 points for the Chieftains (5-0).

Tonganoxie meets Metro Academy at home today at 1:30 p.m.

Santa Fe Trail 74, Hiawatha 13

Carbondale — Holly Ullery led all scorers with 21 points for Santa Fe Trail, which led 48-10 at halftime and shut Hiawatha out in the third quarter.

Shelby Dahl scored 14 points for the Chargers (6-1), which host Perry-Lecompton on Tuesday.

De Soto 43, Eudora 33

Eudora — De Soto pulled away in the fourth quarter to win by 10 over Eudora (2-6).

Eudora travels to Paola on Tuesday.

Horton 48, McLouth 15

McLouth — Horton held McLouth in single digits in each quarter, including one point in the third, as the Chargers rolled by 33.

Oskaloosa 47, Doniphan West 43

Oskaloosa — Oskaloosa out-scored Doniphan West 11-3 at the free-throw line and won by four points.
