Seabury boys fall, 51-33, in finale

? Eighth-seed Bishop Seabury Academy fell to top-seeded Lyndon, 51-33, on Monday in the first round of Class 2A boys basketball sub-state.

The Seahawks finished the season 1-17 and were led by freshman Caleb Owino’s 12 points. Seabury limited Lyndon’s big men — 6-foot-6 Scott Farwell and 6-3 Dakota Jiskra — to just six points apiece, but struggled defending the perimeter.

“This is a huge basketball team that pounds the ball inside,” Seabury coach Ashley Battles said. “So the game plan was to make sure their bigs didn’t score inside. We did a fantastic job of that, but taking that away left them open on the three-point line, and they hit some shots that gave us fits.”

Skylar Farwell led Lyndon (19-1) with 11 points, while Joey Ramsey added 10.

Battles credited Lyndon as a “fantastic team” with “classy kids and classy fans.”

“We were the eighth seed they were the one, and we made them sweat,” Battles said. “They were sweating in the fourth quarter; we did our job, but we just couldn’t get over the hump once we got it down to ten in the fourth.”

The loss marked the final game for Seabury seniors Brandon McCaffrey, Eric Shin, Frank Depenbusch, Michael Kressig and Fischer Almanza.

“I’m gonna miss the seniors,” Battles said. “This was one win and 17 losses, and a lot of teams would have crumbled, but our guys fought to the very end no matter what. I’m very proud of them.”
