From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 26, 1988:

  • In a report to a Douglas County committee on rural development, a five-member subcommittee proposed building codes for new construction of single family homes or additions in rural area. The electrical, plumbing, and structural codes were suggested for the purpose of meeting the safety needs of fast-paced housing construction.
  • A group of city commissioners, city staff, and members of the Downtown Improvement Committee were traveling to Manhattan, Kansas, this week for a seminar titled "The Malling of I-70." The program, presented by the Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association, was to feature as speakers the city planning directors of Topeka and Lawrence, a member of the Salina planning staff, a mall designer, a KU School of Architecture dean, and the assistant director for community development in Manhattan. Lawrence DIC members were expected to discuss the seminar upon their return.
