Ames, Iowa ? Four Kansas University track-and-field athletes earned individual titles on the first day of the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Lindsay Vollmer (pentathlon), Francine Simpson (long jump) and Alena Krechyk (weight throw) placed first for the KU women, who also sit atop the team standings with 67 points.

Alex Bishop won the title in the pole vault to lead the Kansas men to second place as a team. The Jayhawks, with 30.50 points, trail Texas’ 47.

Several other Jayhawks also placed high against Big 12 competition on Saturday.

Rebecca Neville placed second in the women’s pentahlon, just behind teammate Vollmer.

Andrea Geubelle was runner-up in the women’s long jump behind Simpson, who broke the Big 12 meet record. KU’s Sydney Conley placed fifth.

Casey Bowen finished second after teammate Bishop in the men’s pole vault. Fellow Jayhawk Regan Gilbert tied for third.

And the Kansas women’s distance medley relay team of Natalie Becker, Taylor Washington, Kelli McKenna and Hannah Richardson took fourth place.

The Jayhawks will close out the Big 12 meet today with men’s high jump, women’s triple jump, women’s shot put and the track finals.
