Income tax cuts signed into law last year by Gov. Sam Brownback will be the subject of a public discussion at the Dole Institute of Politics between state Sen. Tom Holland and Kansas Department of Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan.

The event will start at 4 p.m. Sunday and is free and open to the public.

Holland, D-Baldwin City, is the ranking Democrat on the Senate tax committee and a vocal opponent of the tax cuts. Jordan has been Brownback’s point man pushing for income tax cuts.

The cuts reduced state personal income tax rates and eliminated state income taxes for 191,000 business owners.

Brownback has said the cuts will improve the economy, but Democrats note that the cuts have produced huge revenue shortfalls for state government.
