There's no way I'll be able to get out of my driveway and I live in girls will be staying home tomorrow, regardless of whether or not Lawrence closes.

Mine will be going somewhere -- even if it's not school. They're already bugging me and we've only been home for part of one day.

Actually that was on Groundhog Day just two years ago in 2011. I remember the UDK looked back and counted only 15 KU weather closures since 1972, and the previous instance of 2 consecutive days was in 2002 for a storm that coated everything with an inch of ice...

This seems at least as bad as 2011, plus it's the end of the week whereas that was in the middle...I hope they have that history in mind and don't keep us in suspense too much longer. Lord knows I'm in no hurry to finish the driveway, let alone the sidewalks and porch...

I think with KU, the concern is much more if the buses can run or not. Obviously rural routes aren't a consideration there, but if they can make their routes, classes will probably resume. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if some professors have already cancelled classes for tomorrow.

fiddleback 5 years, 4 months ago

Yeah, the buses are the main factor, but if these side streets don't have a good shot of being clear by tomorrow morning, then perhaps that will tip the scales. You also have to remember that there aren't that many classes on Friday anyway...and it looks like the tail-end flurries are beginning to come in...

You must not live close to a city commissioner either.

I'm game for more! In the infamous words of Joe Swanson...Bring it on!!!

The city could really benefit by being in someone (the does transportation) to help them build a better clearing schedule, because the one they have now is terrible, as small as lawrence is more of these streets should be clear, you can treat roads and plow at the same time.

me too. But it may be open because of performances in the theater.

This is A LOT of snow. Before the whining begin, it will take a lot more than 24 hours to make a decent dent on the residential streets.

elliottaw 5 years, 4 months ago

It's not that much snow, no reason for it to to be cleared in 24hrs, lawrence is just a little town and they have a very poor gameplan, not the drivers fault they are following the plan the higher ups need to learn how to properly use their resources to clear the snow in a timely manner

I vote for you to do it seem to know everyting about everything anyway. What an asset you would be to the city.

Final Fridays has not issued a cancellation. Several venues will still host events or be open tomorrow including The Invisible Hand Gallery, Wonder Fair, SeedCo Studios, Pachamamas, and The Lawrence Art Party. We hope to have a full list of open spaces soon. -Molly Murphy, Final Fridays Coordinator

I apologize. We were told it was canceled. I've removed the reference to the cancellation. Please send me a list — — as soon as you can of the spaces that will be open. I'd like to include that in our listing online and in Friday's print edition.

Thanks so much.

With all this free time, are the students out en masse clearing snow for their neighbors, schools, churches, etc.? If not, it's time to prod them!

LadyJ 5 years, 4 months ago

No, but they did walk by me with their sleds as I shoveled for a couple of hours, and I'm no spring chicken.
