Kansas University football coach Charlie Weis announced several changes to his coaching staff Monday afternoon, most involving people in behind-the-scenes roles.

One of the biggest moves involves defensive coordinator Dave Campo, who has a new title: assistant head coach for defense. According to the release sent out by KU, Campo will still coach defensive backs.

He now will be aided by Scott Vestal, who previously served as KU’s assistant director of operations and will become an assistant defensive backs coach who works closely with special teams.

A couple of other names who shifted into new roles include: Rod Jones, who moves from graduate assistant to director of high school relations; Maurice Crum, Jr., who moves from GA to assistant director of operations; Matt Shula, who worked in quality control in 2012 and now will be a graduate assistant with an emphasis on special teams; and Mark Ross, who moves from intern to offensive quality control.

Weis also announced three new members of the staff in the release. Louie Matsakis, who previously worked at Kansas under Mark Mangino, will be KU’s new director of personnel. Max Onyegbule, a former KU defensive lineman (2006-09) will serve as a graduate assistant on defense. And Ty Greenwood, formerly the defensive coordinator at Pierce College in Los Angeles, joins as a quality control coach for defense.

The promotion of Vestal to full-time assistant, fills out KU’s coaching staff, which previously had an opening because of former linebackers coach DeMontie Cross’ move to TCU. Clint Bowen, who last year coached safeties and special teams, moved into Cross’ role coaching linebackers.
