Kansas softball takes down Georgetown twice

? Kansas University’s softball team collected its third and fourth victories of the season on Saturday at the Florida International Tournament.

KU hit Georgetown with a 9-1, run-rule victory in the morning before handing the Hoyas a 5-2 defeat in the evening.

The Jayhawks (4-0) will face North Carolina State (3-1) at 12:30 p.m. today for the tournament title.

Timely hits by a KU freshman and senior got the Jayhawks off to a fast start Saturday morning. Newcomer Chaley Brickey hit a two-run double for Kansas in the second inning, and senior Maggie Hull blasted her fourth career grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead. Sophomore Chanin Naudin went 4-for-4 from the plate. Junior Alex Jones (1-0) picked up the win.

In the nightcap, freshman Alex Hugo accounted for most of the Jayhawks’ offense. Hugo was a double short of the cycle, driving in four of KU’s five runs. Fellow freshman Kelsey Kessler (2-0) was nearly as dominant on the mound, allowing seven hits and two unearned runs but striking out nine while walking none. Sophomore Alicia Pille closed the game for her first save of the season.
