An elderly Lawrence woman told police early Tuesday morning she had been robbed in her home by a masked burglar.

Lawrence police officers responded to the call about 4:35 a.m. at the woman's home in the Brookwood Mobile Home Park, 1908 E. 19th St. The woman said she had been awakened by a loud noise and then confronted by a male burglar wearing a ski mask, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman. According to the woman's report, she struggled with the burglar after he entered her bedroom and demanded her purse. The burglar took the purse and fled.

Officers searched the area without finding a suspect, McKinley said, and the investigation continues.

Probably someone she knows (thus the mask). Hope they find this piece of garbage soon.

I'm not quite elderly, nor is my wife, but had this gentleman visited our home at that hour for those purposes there would be a different headline. Perhaps this nice lady could use some tutoring in how to acquire and fire a weapon.

I don't think it's a coincidence that it was right at the first of the month, right after most elderly receive their pension checks. What an absolute piece of poo that would break in and rob an elderly person.

LJW - has a fund been set to help her? I'm worried about her situation, now....

What a shame. This woman is trying to live her life in peace and now she is probably afraid to be alone. The a..hole is most likely a neighbor who knew exactly what he would have to deal with; no gun, no danger, no problem. I hope this person will reap the rewards due to such scum.

Did this happen in the part of town that wants to recognized as a Cultural District?

Probably just a city commissioner looking to fund another multi-million dollar project.
