40 years ago: Six arrested after drug sale at Baldwin H.S.

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 4, 1973:

  • Six people were taken into custody this week after what was described by Douglas County Deputy Sheriff Don Schwartz as a marijuana sale at a Baldwin-Basehor basketball game at Baldwin High School. Four of those arrested were juveniles, a 16-year-old girl and 16-and 17-year-old boys, all of Baldwin, and a 16-year-old Job Corps enrollee from Topeka. Two adults from Baldwin, ages 19 and 20, were also involved in the arrests.
  • Area law enforcement agencies were investigating several recent crashes, including one north of Lawrence on U.S. 24-40 in which one person had suffered minor injuries. In another crash about one-half mile north of the Eudora city limits, the 20-year-old driver told investigators that he had lost control of his vehicle when reaching into the glove compartment of his car to look for his checkbook.
