Wichita — Veritas Christian’s boys basketball team erased a five-point halftime deficit by scoring the first seven points of the second half and defeated Wichita Northfield on Saturday.

The Eagles, who fell to defending state champion Wichita WAHAA, 54-32, on Friday night, went 1-1 on their Wichita road trip.

“We were disappointed we didn’t play better Friday night,” Veritas coach Gary Hammer said. “It was nice to see we could bounce back after a disappointing loss. Elijah Harvey is a big reason why we won. He had his best game of the year.”

Harvey scored 19 points against Northfield to lead the Eagles. Caleb Holland added eight points, and Andrew Currier and Thomas Bachert scored six points apiece.

Veritas (13-4) will play at Manhattan CHIEF on Tuesday.

Wichita — Tori Huslig scored nine points, and Naomi Hickman had eight points and 10 rebounds for Veritas.

Madi Bennett added seven points, and Kristen Finger had six points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

The game was tied 14-all at halftime, but the Eagles outscored Northfield 12-4 in the third quarter.

“We came out just a little sloppy, but we settled down after halftime,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “We passed the ball better, got better looks at the basket, and that was the difference in the game. We were much more pleased with our effort in the second half.”

Veritas (8-10) will play Tuesday at Manhattan CHIEF.
