KU women’s track third at Armory Invitational

? Kansas University thrower Alena Krechyk led the KU women’s track and field team to a third-place finish on the final day of the Armory Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the Armory Track and Field Center.

Krechyk, a senior from Grodnos, Balarus, broke her own school record in the weight throw — set at the same meet last season — and won the event. Her mark of 20.51 meters is second-best in the NCAA this season.

Senior sprinter Paris Daniels placed third in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 23.46.

The KU men were led by sophomore pole vaulter Greg Lupton, who earned the top mark of 5.30 meters.

Nick Seckfort (third place, 800), Josh Munsch (fifth, mile) and Alex Bishop (fifth, pole vault) also had top finishes for the Kansas men’s team.

The Jayhawks will travel to three meets next: the ISU Classic on Thursday in Ames, Iowa; the Tyson Invitational on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.; and the Husky Classic on Friday in Seattle.
