Seabury girls win opener, 44-16

Seabury Academy’s girls basketball team held Independence Home School scoreless in the first quarter and won its season opener, 44-16, on Saturday at Seabury.

Mariah Smith scored 19 points and made five steals to lead the Seahawks. Ellen Almanza added eight points, and Regan Zaremba had six points.

“Regan Zaremba took on the point-guard position for first time in her career and did an exceptional job of bringing the ball down and seeing the court,” Seabury coach Keith Smith said. “Reilly Malone and Celia Taylor played very aggressive, diving after loose balls and just fighting for rebounds.”

Seabury will play at Axtell on Saturday.
