Aquahawks openings: The Aquahawks are always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. Archery club: The Junior Olympic Archery Development Club meets at 9 a.m. every Saturday in the indoor target range at Overton’s Archery Center, 1025 N. Third Street, Suite 119. RunWalk Lawrence: A new training program called RunWalkLawrence is starting in Lawrence. It is a Jeff Galloway program. Galloway represented the U.S. at the 1972 Munich Olympics and has since helped over a quarter of a million people experience the joys and benefits of running. Galloway has programs in many major cities around the country; this is the first time his program has been offered in Kansas. Questions can be directed to J. Jenkins at (785)-865-6112.

10U softball: The River City All Stars 10U softball team is looking for players with 2003 birthdays (2004 considered) to play in the spring/summer of 2014 with optional 2013 fall and winter practices. For information or to schedule a tryout, contact coach Troy Johnson at or 550-0524.

Eudora basketball: Eudora youth basketball leagues are forming: 1st/2nd Grade Co-Rec Leagues, 3rd/4th Grade Boys & Girls Leagues and 5th/6th Grade Boys & Girls Leagues. Cost is $40 per participant. Eagle Bend ace: Gene Shaughnessy recorded a hole-in-one on the 120-yard No. 3 hole at Eagle Bend on Saturday. Shaughnessy used a pitching wedge for the ace.

Softball clinics: The Kansas University softball coaching staff will host two winter clinics on Dec. 15 inside Anschutz Pavilion. The clinics are open to anyone in grades 8 through 12 and will be priced at $75 for each. The first session will focus on the mechanics of hitting and the fundamentals of defense and will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. The second session, lasting from 12:30-3 p.m., will be dedicated to working specifically with pitchers and catchers. Those attending the clinic will work closely with KU coaching staff members as well as current and former players. A multiple session discount of $25 will be applied if you sign up for both sessions. Adult winter leagues: Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking team registration for winter adult basketball, bowling and volleyball and individual registration for an adult pickleball league. Soccer leagues: Lawrence Parks & Recreation is now taking registration for the 2014 Boys & Girls Indoor Futsal (Soccer) Leagues Grades K-6. The cost is K-4th grades $40 and 5th & 6th grades $50. Basketball program: Lawrence Parks & Recreation and Lawrence USD #497 are now taking registration for the 2014 Boys Middle School Intramural Basketball Program for the sixth, seventh and eighth. Royal Crest youth leagues: Royal Crest Lanes will host youth bowling leagues on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 11. The age groups are: 4-7, bantams, two games per week; 7-12, preps, three games per week; and 12-plus, brat pack, three games per week. For information, contact Royal Crest at 842-1234.

Local lifters win: Lawrence residents Bobbi Walden, Joe Walden and Brady Tanner all won their classes in the Kansas Regional Powerlifting Championships. The meet included lifters from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Youth bowlers: Several local youth bowlers placed at an adult/youth tournament in Olathe. They were: Div. 2, Matthew Eagle, fourth place; Div. 3, Adonis Stanwix, second; Div. 4, Ally Eckert, second, and Javier Lemmons, fourth; Div. 5, Caden Bruns, third place with a 263 game.

KU women’s hoops clinic: Kansas University women’s basketball will host its 2013 Holiday Hoops Clinic from 3-5 p.m., Dec. 27 at Allen Fieldhouse. The clinic is for youths from kindergarten through eighth grade. Cost is $15 per child and $5 for adults participating with their child/children.
