A Lawrence man was missing for more than 10 hours before being reunited with his family Sunday afternoon, according to the Lawrence Police Department.

Officers searched for 81-year-old Jacob Bohanon Sunday morning and into the afternoon after a report came in that he had not been seen since midnight on Dec. 1. The LPD issued a silver alert, which is used to broadcast information about missing persons, especially seniors with Alzheimer's Disease, dementia or other mental disabilities.

According to a statement from Sgt. Trent McKinley, public affairs officer for the LPD, Bohanon was found uninjured Sunday.

Indeed, the not knowing must be horrible. Now the family has some hard decisions to make. As we all get older and there are more of us this kind of situation should be talked about before it happens. It is tough getting older when you feel you have lost the right to be treated as an adult. Bitter though it may be it is a reality that must be confronted.

I hope that someone spots him and calls it in. You always hate to read about something like that.
