Name: Brett Haas

Age: 40

Relationship status: Married

Hometown: Tonganoxie

Time in Lawrence: Just visiting and on a date with my wife.

Occupation: Believe it or not, I’m a cowboy.

Dream job: I’m working on my dream but I’m not quite there yet. I want to go to the King Ranch, one of the oldest ranches in Texas, to attend the Institute for Land Management. They only accept three people per year.

What were you doing when scouted? Drinking my mocha and people watching.

Describe your style: Well, you’re looking at it pretty much. This is what I wear all the time. No one believes it. Nobody understands how you wear long sleeves year-round and be cool. I took a lake trip with my brother last time and I tried to wear flip-flops. By the end of the day my feet were [done] so I put my boots and jeans back on! I couldn’t take it.

Fashion trends you love: Normally, this isn’t the style of hat I wear. I wear more of a flat hat that you would find out in California. I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie “Buck.” It goes back to when the Spaniards came over. They brought back a style of horsemanship and a style of dressing that carried on out in California.

Fashion trends you hate: Nothing really! You know, I used to have hair down to my back, earrings and my tongue was pierced because I wanted to be a rock star in high school. Then I started to listening to Dwight Yoakam and saw “The Horse Whisperer.” It was all downhill from there. It’s all Dwight’s fault I ended up this way.

Fashion influences: I pick up a lot from magazines like Western Horseman. The cowboy culture just varies. Most people wouldn’t notice but there’s a difference in style from California, Nevada to Montana and Wyoming: there’s a mixture of styles from type of saddle, type of hat or type of bit you put in a horse’s mouth. It’s a pretty diverse culture.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence? More alternative food scenes or the “foodie movement” with grass-fed beef.

Less of? Last week, we came here and got screamed at for about 30 minutes by a guy on crack or something. That could change in Lawrence! He was possessed! We were ready to cast him out and throw some holy water on him!

Tattoos or piercings: None

Whom do people say you look like? When I wore my other hat and had a beard in the wintertime, someone told me I looked like Clint Eastwood.

What type of music do you unwind to: A Demon Hunter CD. But I listen to everything from country to rap and metal. It’s just whatever I want to listen to.

Tell us a secret: Nothing comes to mind.
